Meeker Red Raspberry (rubu idaeus 'Meeker') is a deciduous easy to grow vigorous, self-fertile plant with long willowy growth. Large thimble shaped dark red fruit appear in June. Canes are hardy and do not require staking. Firm juicy dark red fruit with a high sugar content that is excellent for eating fresh, freezing, canning, juices, jams and jellies. Produces fruit on second year wood. They freeze well, and can be thawed later to enjoy a little taste of summer in winter.
Plant in full sun to partial shade in well drained loamy soils.
Harvest Time: June - September. Raspberries ripen in stages as the plants produce blooms and develop berries, it's best to harvest the ripe raspberries twice or more a week. Pick the darkest berries by hand. Ripe Raspberries will pull from the stems without crushing or tearing at the tops. Be sure to also remove and discard any overripe berries that are still on the canes as you pick.
